Year 12 Business Studies: Latest Qantas News
For the very latest updates to the Qantas case study; click on the link I have provided which will take you to the case study website. Once there, click on 'Latest Qantas News'.
12 Business Studies: Case Study
Initially I had told you that the "drivers of globalisation" found in the first part of the Global Business topic did not have great relevance to case study material. I subsequently changed my opinion and explained this to the class on Wednesday 23rd September. However, some of you were away on this day, so I have included an explanation here:
- Role of transnational corporations: Qantas, Billabong and Domino's are examples of companies that have benefited from the rise of transnationals. That is, they are all examples of TNCs.
- Global consumers: i.e. around the world consumers are becoming more alike in what they want. Qantas has taken advantage of this as people who travel want safe, reliable air travel with good quality service.
- Impact of technology: Qantas has taken advantage of technological improvements in air travel.
- Role of government: Over the last 40 years, governments have progressively reduced barriers to trade and investment. This has benefited a business like Billabong which is able to sell into markets that in the past it may have had restricted access to.
- Deregulation of financial markets: This has enabled businesses to obtain funding from overseas more easily. Much of Qantas' debt is borrowed from overseas.
